Trader Joe's Shredded Swiss & Gruyere |
I have a feeling, I’m late to the party on this one. But, “Better late than never!” I just discovered this product last week at Trader Joe’s: A cheese blend of shredded Swiss and Gruyere. If you’ve been following a low sodium diet for a while, you’ll immediately understand why this product is such a big deal. Swiss cheese is naturally low in sodium, so it’s one cheese that we loso-ers can eat without too much worrying. And it’s readily available at local grocery stores. Usually either sliced in the self-service deli section. But you can also ask the folks at the full-service deli to sell you a solid chunk. Unfortunately, most of my local stores don’t stock shredded Swiss.
Seeing this product made me think that maybe – just maybe – the TJ shreds could save me time and effort. Then, when I checked the sodium content, I knew I had to get some. Only 55 mg sodium per ¼ cup (28 g/1 oz). So I promptly plopped two packages in my basket.

I don't know what I'd do without TJ's. I actually live in "TJ Country" (West Los Angeles) and there are 5 of them within about 2 miles of my home. One product that I never see mentioned is their 0 sodium hot sauce. My son, who has no salt restrictions was came for breakfast one day and he asked me if I had hot sauce. I showed him what I had and he said he only liked one particular brand, but when he tasted this sauce on his eggs, he is converted.
In any case, I love your recipes and useful notes about products. Thank you
Rita, I was not aware of the TJ hot sauce. I've got to make a note to look for it next time I head down there. I'm with your son when it comes to a bit of hot sauce on eggs. My husband likes it on eggs too. Thanks for the kind comments, and also thanks for sharing about another loso product.
FYI - TJ has many different hot sauces. This one says "chili pepper sauce" and is $1.99 for a 5 oz bottle. We always wish it came in a larger size.
Rita, thanks for the additional info. I'll definitely look for the sauce. I see another trip to TJ in the near future. Thanks again.
